Maharashtra Day (Diwas) : 1st May

Maharashtra Day, also referred to as Maharashtra Diwas, is celebrated on May 1 every year in the state of Maharashtra. This day has significance with reference to the formation of the state of Maharashtra. Earlier Gujarat and Maharashtra was known as Bombay State, This Bombay State was divided on May 1, 1960, into two state called, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Maharashtra Day is celebrated with great excitement and enthusiasm with different cultural programs, school rallies, parades, and flag-hosting ceremonies. 

The history of Maharashtra Day moves us back to the 20th century when demand was first raised for the separate state of Maharashtra based on the language lines, of people speaking Marathi. The commission gave the green signal to the formation of Maharashtra and on May 1, 1960, Bombay state was divided into Maharashtra and Gujarat till then 1st May is celebrated as Maharashtra Day.

One of the most important events of Maharashtra Day is the parade that takes place in Mumbai city. The parade is led by the governor of Maharashtra and is attended by thousands of people. The parade includes floats, cultural programs, and performances by school children, college students, and various cultural groups. The parade showcases the state's cultural diversity and celebrates Maharashtra's spirit.


Another special aspect of Maharashtra Day/Diwas is the distribution of sweets and the lighting of lamps in public places. People come together to celebrate the day and share their joy with others. The streets and government buildings are decorated with colorful lights, lamps and there is a festive atmosphere all around the state.

Maharashtra is known for its rich culture, history, and traditions. The state has given birth to some of the greatest poets, writers, politicians, soldiers, and artists in the country. Maharashtra is also known for its contribution to the freedom struggle of India, with great leaders like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, and Lokmanya Tilak hailing from the state.

In every school and every public place where the event is celebrated on Maharashtra day, the statue or photo of the great king of Shivaji Maharaj is mandatory as he brings a lot of bravery, richness, greatness, leadership, and a lot more. People get motivated just after pronouncing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's names.

Today on 1st 2023, we celebrate the 63rd Maharashtra Day. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will be attending a lot of events across the state and guiding the people of Maharashtra. Let's Enjoy and support me in writing a lot of things Maharashtra
